The Bold, The Brash & The Brave – Design Trends of 2018

Every single year the world of design shifts, and 2018 is no exception. Different trends arise with some working, and some not so much. Everything from bold colours, gorgeous typography and semi flat design have all started to take hold of the design industry following 2017. We’ve compiled a small list of the trends we’re most looking forward to in 2018 for everything from graphic design, to web design.

We definitely have our favourites, ones in which we will definitely be taking advantage of during projects over the coming year. Some of which we’ve already used and some we cannot wait to try out. 2018 is going to be an exciting year for design.

01. Responsive Logos

How we view and design logos is becoming increasingly focused around the technology in which we see these brands. In a world that is ruled by mobile devices, responsive logos is becoming more and more important.

Having a website that is mobile responsive is pretty standard these days. This means you want your brand to represent itself correctly on all devices, this is where responsive logos are going to play a big part.

We found this website, created in 2014 by designer Joe Harrison, we think this is a great example of how responsive logos will work on the web.

02. Custom Illustrations

In the last few years, we’ve seen a rise in companies and brands using custom illustrations to tell their story. In particular, two companies which we’ve noticed have taken this trend on is Natwest, which was rebranded by Future Brand agency in the back the popular work collaboration platform Slack.

Combine what we’ve got so far, with more depth & subtle animation, we think custom illustrations will look gorgeous and add a new level of story telling with custom illustrations.

03. Colour Me Beautiful!

Have your sun glasses at the ready, we’re going to see some bold, brilliant and vibrant websites in 2018. With Dropbox spear heading the trend last year with their new re-brand, we’re going to see this trend catch on something spectacular in both branding and web design.

04. Isometric is where it’s at in 2018.

In the last few years illustrations have become a popular choice of direction to go within web design and we’ve seen some beautiful examples of this. Though 2018 is bringing a new lease of life to this with the rise of isometric design.

Isometric design adds a new dimension to custom illustrations, using shadows and natural perspectives to create an elevated story telling experience on any design format.

We are extremely curious to see how 2018 goes in the design industry. Apart from these 4 trends, there are bound to be many others we haven’t even considered that will pop up and surprise us, that is what we love about our industry. The year of bold colours and new dimensions is bound to be a banger and we can’t wait to see what happens.
